That Will Never Work Download

ISBN: B07X7JH5ZH
Title: That Will Never Work Pdf The Birth of Netflix and the Amazing Life of an Idea

In the tradition of Phil Knight's Shoe Dog comes the incredible untold story of how Netflix went from concept to company - all revealed by co-founder and first CEO Marc Randolph.

Once upon a time, brick-and-mortar video stores were king. Late fees were ubiquitous, video-streaming unheard of, and widespread DVD adoption seemed about as imminent as flying cars. Indeed, these were the widely accepted laws of the land in 1997, when Marc Randolph had an idea. It was a simple thought - leveraging the internet to rent movies - and was just one of many more and far worse proposals, like personalized baseball bats and a shampoo delivery service, that Randolph would pitch to his business partner, Reed Hastings, on their commute to work each morning.

But Hastings was intrigued, and the pair - with Hastings as the primary investor and Randolph as the CEO - founded a company. Now with over 150 million subscribers, Netflix's triumph feels inevitable, but the 21st century's most disruptive start up began with few believers and calamity at every turn. From having to pitch his own mother on being an early investor, to the motel conference room that served as a first office, to server crashes on launch day, to the now-infamous meeting when Netflix brass pitched Blockbuster to acquire them, Marc Randolph's transformational journey exemplifies how anyone with grit, gut instincts and determination can change the world-even with an idea that many think will never work.

What emerges, however, isn't just the inside story of one of the world's most iconic companies. Full of counter-intuitive concepts and written in binge-worthy prose, it answers some of our most fundamental questions about taking that leap of faith in business or in life: How do you begin? How do you weather disappointment and failure? How do you deal with success? What even is success?

From idea generation to team building to knowing when it's time to let go, That Will Never Work is not only the ultimate follow-your-dreams parable, but also one of the most dramatic and insightful entrepreneurial stories of our time.

Heartfelt, Inspirational, and Entertaining I enjoyed this book thoroughly. The book follows a format that works: it's a zero to one story that ties in business lessons and life lessons (similar to Ray Dalio's 'Principals', or Phil Knight's 'Shoe Dog'). The story itself is fascinating - it captures the grind, the fun, and the adventure of building something. In the final portion of the book Randolph really opens up - he speaks to why he started something, and why he left his baby. Ultimately he left this reader thinking... what are all the things I want to do that people have said "that will never work?" And which of them should I take steps towards trying.Would recommend to anyone with an idea (business or otherwise). Resonated especially strongly with me as a young person, early in my career, trying to find my passion and determine how much risk is appropriate at this point in my life. There is a message for each of us in "That Will NEVER Work" by Ruth M In his Book, That Will NEVER Work" Marc Randolph takes us on an interesting and exciting journey about how an idea can lead into what is today one of the most important media companies in the world. It is both personable, funny, easy to follow, and helps us understand what it takes to make a dream come true! This is a truly a GREAT story. I couldn't put it down. Ruth MSuccessful startup story - have learned some lessons! Interesting fact is that sometimes we are not aware that success or failure can depend on tiny factor such as what address we put on envelope. You will find the example by reading this book. It is a mind blowing to realize that Netflix could have not exist if Marc put his home address instead of the Reed’s. In the moments like this you start to realize that you have to dig dipper to find the right answer and make things work. I think anyone can learn his lesson(s) by reading this book.

War Against All Puerto Ricans Free Pdf

ISBN: 1568585616
Title: War Against All Puerto Ricans Pdf Revolution and Terror in America's Colony

“A meticulous and riveting account of the decades-long clash between the Puerto Rican independence movement, led by Pedro Albizu Campos, and the commonwealth's U.S.-appointed stewards, national police force, the FBI and, ultimately, the U.S. Army" —Ray Monell, New York Daily News"The writing is terrific...I found the footnotes and notes to be as fascinating and riveting as the narrative...Denis spent many years researching, reading, studying and analyzing, then has distilled a complicated history into a narrative that a general reader can understand and he's skillful in getting readers emotionally involved in the story." —Esmeralda Santiago, author of When I was Puerto Rican"In addition to a ton of data, the book presents photographs of the key events. Denis reviews the relationship between the US and the island, focusing on how the US government used all of its powers to suppress any attempt at independence or Nationalism on the island." —Hermes Ayala, Diálogo UPR, University of Puerto Rico"This book is important...Our history has been stripped from us...There is a war against all Puerto Ricans!" —Howard Jordan, WBAI Radio

The powerful, untold story of the 1950 revolution in Puerto Rico and the long history of U.S. intervention on the island, that the New York Times says "could not be more timely."

In 1950, after over fifty years of military occupation and colonial rule, the Nationalist Party of Puerto Rico staged an unsuccessful armed insurrection against the United States. Violence swept through the island: assassins were sent to kill President Harry Truman, gunfights roared in eight towns, police stations and post offices were burned down. In order to suppress this uprising, the US Army deployed thousands of troops and bombarded two towns, marking the first time in history that the US government bombed its own citizens.

Nelson A. Denis tells this powerful story through the controversial life of Pedro Albizu Campos, who served as the president of the Nationalist Party. A lawyer, chemical engineer, and the first Puerto Rican to graduate from Harvard Law School, Albizu Campos was imprisoned for twenty-five years and died under mysterious circumstances. By tracing his life and death, Denis shows how the journey of Albizu Campos is part of a larger story of Puerto Rico and US colonialism.

Through oral histories, personal interviews, eyewitness accounts, congressional testimony, and recently declassified FBI files, War Against All Puerto Ricans tells the story of a forgotten revolution and its context in Puerto Rico's history, from the US invasion in 1898 to the modern-day struggle for self-determination. Denis provides an unflinching account of the gunfights, prison riots, political intrigue, FBI and CIA covert activity, and mass hysteria that accompanied this tumultuous period in Puerto Rican history.

it reads like a police blotter This is sharply written, well-documented, and UNKNOWN history. I wasn't aware that all this happened in Puerto Rico! The book reminds me of Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee, and Gulag Archipelago...it reads like a police blotter, with the entire island as a crime scene.A lot of people are going to re-set their moral compass, and re-think their views about "Puerto Rican history" when they read this book.Bombing two towns in broad daylight...arresting 3,000 Puerto Ricans...jailing and torturing hundreds of them...killing and maiming over 200 of them on Palm Sunday...keeping secret FBI files on over ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND Puerto Ricans...arresting anyone who owned a Puerto Rican flag, or sang the national anthem...This stuff is incredible! Yet it all happened, right under our noses, in broad daylight. What a strange thing for the USA, the "leader of the free world," to do this to an entire island - with millions of people on it.I have to salute WAR AGAINST ALL PUERTO RICANS, for bringing it out into the open.

Anthony Bourdain's Les Halles Cookbook Free Pdf

Title: Anthony Bourdain's Les Halles Cookbook Pdf Strategies, Recipes, and Techniques of Classic Bistro Cooking
Author: Anthony Bourdain
Published Date: 2004-10-15
Page: 304

A celebrity with a high-profile position as executive chef at New York bistro Les Halles, and bestselling author of Kitchen Confidential and A Cook's Tour, Bourdain doesn't intend to break new ground. The dishes do exactly as the subtitle notes and include such solid classic fare as Onion Soup Les Halles, Steak au Poivre, Boeuf Bourguignon, Coq au Vin and Chocolate Mousse. Nearly all recipes are within reach of competent home cooks, and those that are more complicated or time-consuming—Bouillabaisse, Cassoulet and Roulade of Wild Pheasant—are thoroughly spelled out to calm most jitters. Foie gras, duck fat and dark veal stock are frequent components, but a list of suppliers makes just about every ingredient available. Even though many of the dishes can be found in other cookbooks, what sets this one apart is Bourdain's signature wise-ass attitude that pervades nearly every recipe, explanatory note and chapter introduction. Profanity adds frequent color. If Aunt Doris would blanche at pearl onions being called "little fuckers," a cook who prefers boneless meat in Daube Provençal a "poor deluded bastard," or a person nervous about making these recipes a "dipshit," this book is not for her. Bestselling author, TV host, and chef Anthony Bourdain reveals the hearty, delicious recipes of Les Halles, the classic New York City French bistro where he got his start.

Before stunning the world with his bestselling Kitchen Confidential, Anthony Bourdain, host of the celebrated TV shows Parts Unknown and No Reservations, spent years serving some of the best French brasserie food in New York. With its no-nonsense, down-to-earth atmosphere, Les Halles matched Bourdain's style perfectly: a restaurant where you can dress down, talk loudly, drink a little too much wine, and have a good time with friends. Now, Bourdain brings you his Les Halles Cookbook, a cookbook like no other: candid, funny, audacious, full of his signature charm and bravado.

Bourdain teaches you everything you need to know to prepare classic French bistro fare. While you're being guided, in simple steps, through recipes like roasted veal short ribs and steak frites, escargots aux noix and foie gras au pruneaux, you'll feel like he's in the kitchen beside you-reeling off a few insults when you've scorched the sauce, and then patting you on the back for finally getting the steak tartare right.

As practical as it is entertaining, Anthony Bourdain's Les Halles Cookbook is a can't-miss treat for cookbook lovers, aspiring chefs, and Bourdain fans everywhere.

A good read, and a great attitude This is one of the few cook books that both (a) I've read cover-to-cover, *and* (b) I recommend to anyone who will listen. I am particularly fond of the "it's not hard" and "it doesn't have to be expensive or finicky" attitude -- it's very encouraging and enthusiastic. In fact, having read (and cooked a bunch from) both this book and Charcuterie, I now get *angry* when a mid-tier or better restaurant serves me clearly-store-bought stuff -- it's just not that hard! It's a great book, and an entertaining read. The only downside is that it has too many... forced? artificial-feeling? "Bourdain"-ness moments, added in in a jarring way. It probably helps sell the book, but I thought it felt unnecessary and hacky too often -- and this is coming from someone who -likes- his shows and public persona! There were just too many times I thought, "I'd bet $100 some editor poked him to stick that phrase in there, or added it himself" that were jarring as I read it. And I'm a -fan- of direct, adult language and side rants! It felt like it needed another round of editing, or simply a bit more effort; sorry, had to ding a star.Still, if you're interested in French cooking, or don't actually read the narratives of cookbooks and are looking for technique and recipes, it's a great resource. Now go make some stock from scratch! : )if I like them well enough I've bought several copies of this book. I am a professional cook, but it is not something I want to do for the rest of my life, although it has treated me well while I go to school, army bct, etc. However, when I encounter younger new cooks full of dreams and doubts, if I like them well enough, I'll let them have a copy of this book, as it is a great source of inspiration to either pursue the life of the chef or get really good at something else.Thought I knew how to cook, thank you Mr ... Thought I knew how to cook, thank you Mr. Bourdain for a showing me how much I have to learn. Luv the book.

Finding Forever Download

ISBN: 1642934208
Title: Finding Forever Pdf A 1970s Love Story
Author: Anthony Sciarratta
Published Date: 2019-11-05
Page: 288

"An insightful novel that depicts the difficulties a relationship can experience in spite of the love that's clearly present. Finding Forever doesn't pretend that love makes everything easy, and through the narrator's relationship with his newfound lover, it will show how all loving relationships are—at one time or another—confronted with the question: what is love worth? A truly profound question posed to us readers by a remarkably young writer." Author: Miles Fisher, Editor of Italian America"You would be hard pressed to find an intelligent, well-written romantic novel today. It's been several decades since The Notebook was a huge success. Along with that genre of Romantic Comedy has all but vanished in Hollywood. Anthony Sciarratta with his Finding Forever successfully bucks the trend. In his streamlined novel people do meet, they do fall in love and their partners not only bring them satisfaction, they also bring them stability. Set in an authentic working-class world, with flourishes of humor and modern angst, Finding Forever is a comforting and thoughtful read about romantic love." Author: Richard Vetere, Playwright, author, tv writer, screenwriter, and actor Anthony Sciarratta was born in Maspeth, New York, to Italian-American parents. Being very nostalgic, Anthony takes great pride in labeling himself an old soul. His love for classic films, music, and literature shows through his work. Anthony wrote Finding Forever over a four-month period. Finding Forever is authentic to the 1970s, an iconic era in American history. Finding Forever was originally self-published. Anthony received exposure for his work and managed to build a personal brand. His success story as such a young writer is inspirational to all aspiring young writers and self-published authors.

In 1970s New York, a neurotic Italian-American man is inspired to write a novel about his love affair with a quirky Broadway actress who inspires him to pursue his life-long dream.

Michael Coniglio is at his wit's end. His girlfriend, Angela, announces in front of the local coffee shop crowd that she has a new lover. The emotional fallout leads him to lose his office job, giving his boss the long-awaited excuse to fire him. Michael goes home to his parents looking for support and professes his childhood dream only for his father to remind Michael that he will never amount to anything.

Just as Michael is about to give up on life, he meets a woman who changes everything. The chatty and quirky Elvira Vaughn brings flavor to his world. The innocent, bright eyed, artsy young woman ran from an abusive home to become a Broadway actress in crime-riddled New York City. Suffering from the depression of her past, the now thirty-year-old looks to a higher power for an answer. Can Michael and Elvira overcome the demons of their past and find their way into each other’s hearts?

Finding Forever is the humorous love story of two old souls that finally collide, reminding us that love exists even in the darkest of times.

This book was such an easy read. The story flows and draws you in ... This book was such an easy read. The story flows and draws you in from the first few pages. I laughed, cried, and prayed along with the characters. MUST READ!A MUST read!!!! I could not put down this book since the moment I started reading it.. I’m so happy a friend told me about it. It’s an amazing love story. A man who basically gave up on love and was brought back to life by a young woman he met randomly... The love that developed was something truly beautiful. It was not just a love story but had so many funny parts.. everything all in one. I couldn’t put it down Bc i needed to know what was going to happen next and if they would end up together or not. In the world we live in it was great to read about a time where couples dated and had real conversations without being on their phones or social media. A time where love was really love and respected. It was so good I bought 3 other copies for my family to read!!A Total Love Story This is a beautiful reminder that although true love sometimes happen by chance, someone is placed here for each and every one of us.
