“Pink delivers the bad news about our time-based weaknesses with some good news about how to compensate for them. More delightful still, many of these tips involve simply slowing down, taking breaks and stealing naps. Alas, none of this advice will prevent time from flying by, but at least there are proven ways to fill our hours a bit better.” —The Wall Street Journal“Known for his popular books on motivation and creativity, Pink tackles the science behind how we organize our time and how we should set up the routines of our days.” —Washington Post, 11 Leadership Books to Read in 2018“[Pink] unpicks compelling patterns... "Brims with a surprising amount of insight and practical advice." --The Wall Street Journal

Daniel H. Pink, the #1 bestselling author of Drive and To Sell Is Human, unlocks the scientific secrets to good timing to help you flourish at work, at school, and at home.

Everyone knows that timing is everything. But we don't know much about timing itself. Our lives are a never-ending stream of "when" decisions: when to start a business, schedule a class, get serious about a person. Yet we make those decisions based on intuition and guesswork.

Timing, it's often assumed, is an art. In When: The Scientific Secrets of Perfect Timing, Pink shows that timing is really a science.

Drawing on a rich trove of research from psychology, biology, and economics, Pink reveals how best to live, work, and succeed. How can we use the hidden patterns of the day to build the ideal schedule? Why do certain breaks dramatically improve student test scores? How can we turn a stumbling beginning into a fresh start? Why should we avoid going to the hospital in the afternoon? Why is singing in time with other people as good for you as exercise? And what is the ideal time to quit a job, switch careers, or get married?

In When, Pink distills cutting-edge research and data on timing and synthesizes them into a fascinating, readable narrative packed with irresistible stories and practical takeaways that give readers compelling insights into how we can live richer, more engaged lives.

Eyeopening! I thought I was good at time management. And then I read Dan's new book. Now I realize that I knew nothing about the science of timing or true productivity. As with all Dan Pink books, When, is well written, well researched, and completely eye-opening. I can't wait to start applying the principles of When into my life and work. When should you buy this book? Now! It really is a game changer!Loads of research on humans at work...distilled down to what it means to YOU I've read all of Pink's books, starting with Free Agent Nation back in 2002 when I launched my own business. He has a gift of taking boatloads of facts, research and scientific experiments and making it all readable and applicable for the common man. And that is what he has again delivered in When. The cited research can at times come at you fast and furious, as if it's on a pre-Christmas Amazon distribution center conveyor belt. But if you're patient, he will put eventually put a bow on it and tell you what it means for YOU. And to that note, I'm already using the When Daily Planner to prioritize my Peak, Trough and Recovery periods of the day. With Pink's books you will always learn something useful about humans at work and how you can personally benefit from the mounds of research on the topic. Now my only question is...why was I just now taking time from my highly productive "Recovery" portion of the day to write a book review on Amazon? Oh well, I guess I still have work to do in successfully implementing of all these great ideas!Sixth Graders Want to Know More About When! With a group of sixth graders today I read aloud the introduction to WHEN about Captain Turner's Decision. I asked the students to close their eyes and create pictures in their heads about the sinking of the ship the Lusitania. I read the few pages aloud, ok with some drama Daniel Pink would have been proud of! I did this as part of a lesson about comparing and contrasting the sinking of the Titanic to the Lusitania. Before we could get to my lesson objective the students wanted to know more about WHEN and the timing of things. They peppered me with questions that I don't have answers to, YET! I can't wait to read more of WHEN and share it with students and educators everywhere! #AwesomeDay

A Serial Killer's Daughter Download

ISBN: B07BB69VNY
Title: A Serial Killer's Daughter Pdf My Story of Faith, Love, and Overcoming

What is it like to learn that your ordinary, loving father is a serial killer?

In 2005, Kerri Rawson heard a knock on the door of her apartment. When she opened it, an FBI agent informed her that her father had been arrested for murdering ten people, including two children. It was then that she learned her father was the notorious serial killer known as BTK, a name he’d given himself that described the horrific way he committed his crimes: bind, torture, kill. As news of his capture spread, Wichitacelebrated the end of a thirty-one-year nightmare.

For Kerri Rawson, another was just beginning. She was plunged into a black hole of horror and disbelief. The same man who had been a loving father, a devoted husband, church president, Boy Scout leader, and a public servant had been using their family as a cover for his heinous crimes since before she was born. Everything she had believed about her life had been a lie.

Written with candor and extraordinary courage, A Serial Killer’s Daughter is an unflinching exploration of life with one of America’s most infamous killers and an astonishing tale of personal and spiritual transformation. For all who suffer from unhealed wounds or the crippling effects of violence, betrayal, and anger, Kerri Rawson’s story offers the hope of reclaiming sanity in the midst of madness, rebuilding a life in the shadow of death, and learning to forgive the unforgivable.

“No easy answers here. No platitudes. Only raw honesty, written with the gracious authority of one who has glimpsed hell. Kerri Rawson shares her earned wisdom and a hope that has been bought with tears and nightmares. This book is a gritty must-read in the library of hope.”

—Paul J. Pastor, author of The Face of the Deep and The Listening Day

Bacon Tomato Kale It's okay. Kerri doesn't go into explicit details about her father's murders. It's not explotive or sensational. It is as advertised. Life with a serial killer for a father and the fallout when finding out what he is.I wasn't into the hour long section about a family camping trip, nor did I much care for all the god and religious parts.Loved the book. It brought me peace. As a Kansas who's been hearing about Dennis Rader or his deeds for forty years, this is an excellent story because of the different perspective that the author provides. Kerri Rawson shares her grieving and dealing processes so vividly, not only for those murdered and for their families, but for herself and her own shocked family as they themselves were victimized. Incredibly brave and realistic writing. Reading about what a loving and supporting family she grew up with makes her father's crimes all the more unbelievable and horrifying. So glad I read this. Odd but it left me with a soothing sense of closure, peace, and this refreshing lack of having any more curiosity about the whole story/saga/BTK thing. This book really puts a lot of thoughts to rest. All these years I've wondered about how Dennis Rader's family dealt with the aftermath of his crimes. Now I feel like I know. Thank you Kerri. I feel like I know you too, now. Very good book.Sad but interesting read This book was different than expected but very interesting. Her Dad was the BTK and the book shows how the murderers family are victims too. In my opinion there were signs discussed in the book but hindsight is always 20/20. I thought the book was very well written.

Why We Sleep Free Pdf

ISBN: B0752XRB5F
Title: Why We Sleep Pdf Unlocking the Power of Sleep and Dreams

The first sleep book by a leading scientific expert - Professor Matthew Walker, director of UC Berkeley's Sleep and Neuroimaging Lab - reveals his groundbreaking exploration of sleep, explaining how we can harness its transformative power to change our lives for the better.

Sleep is one of the most important but least understood aspects of our life, wellness, and longevity. Until very recently, science had no answer to the question of why we sleep, or what good it served, or why we suffer such devastating health consequences when we don't sleep. Compared to the other basic drives in life - eating, drinking, and reproducing - the purpose of sleep remained elusive.

But an explosion of scientific discoveries in the last 20 years has shed new light on this fundamental aspect of our lives. Now, preeminent neuroscientist and sleep expert Matthew Walker gives us a new understanding of the vital importance of sleep and dreaming. Among so many other things, within the brain, sleep enriches our ability to learn, memorize, and make logical decisions. It recalibrates our emotions, restocks our immune system, fine-tunes our metabolism, and regulates our appetite. Dreaming mollifies painful memories and creates a virtual reality space in which the brain melds past and present knowledge to inspire creativity.

Walker answers important questions about sleep: How do caffeine and alcohol affect sleep? What really happens during REM sleep? Why do our sleep patterns change across a lifetime? How do common sleep aids affect us, and can they do long-term damage? Charting cutting-edge scientific breakthroughs and synthesizing decades of research and clinical practice, Walker explains how we can harness sleep to improve learning, mood, and energy levels; regulate hormones; prevent cancer, Alzheimer's, and diabetes; slow the effects of aging; increase longevity; enhance the education and lifespan of our children, and boost the efficiency, success, and productivity of our businesses. Clear-eyed, fascinating, and immensely accessible, Why We Sleep is the crucial account on sleep that will forever change listeners' minds on the subject.

Excellent book on improving your sleep and why that's important! I love this book! As a life-long poor sleeper, I've read dozens of books that supposedly held the answer to solving my sleep problems. None have, until now. The author not only gives you lots of ideas on how to get a better night's sleep, he tells you why it's so important to get in your nightly 8 hours. Who knew there were so many areas of life impacted by sleep, particularly the lack of it! There is a lot of information here, all of which I found very interesting and quite helpful. At the end of the book he lists a number of ideas that you can put into use immediately. I have seen a great improvement in the quality and amount of sleep I'm getting now, so I feel very comfortable about recommending this book. The Go To Book If You Need to Improve Your Sleep I am an editor for one of the most visited natural health sites and as such had an opportunity to review a prepublication copy of this excellent book. Sleep is one of the most under rated health strategies and if you haven’t ever taken a deep dive in how to understand and optimize your sleep this is one of the best resources out there to optimize your sleep. Are you tired? If your answer is yes, it would seem relatively straightforward to assume you're not getting enough sleep. Yet, signs of sleep deprivation may not always be this obvious (and there are other factors besides sleep loss that can make you feel fatigued).Dr. Walker does an outstanding job of helping you understand the mystery of why we sleep and unravels some of it mysteries, like why your brain shuts down motor control to your muscles during the most active part of sleep, REM sleep. During REM sleep, there is a nonstop barrage of motor commands swirling around your brain, and they underlie the movement-rich experience of dreams. Thankfully Nature tailored a physiological straitjacket that forbids these fictional movements from becoming reality which protects you from harming yourself. Your brain paralyzes your body during REM sleep so your mind can dream safely.Dr. Walker also consults for many professional teams and helps their athletes understand how sleep is one of the most sophisticated, potent, and powerful—not to mention legal—performance enhancers that has real game-winning potential. Sleep can radically reduce career or season ending injuries and massively improve performance if optimized correctly. On the downside he reviews the dangers of what most of us do every night. Not sleep enough. This coming week, more than 2 million people in the US will fall asleep while driving their motor vehicle. That’s more than 250,000 every day, with more such events during the week than weekends for obvious reasons. More than 56 million Americans admit to struggling to stay awake at the wheel of a car each month. As a result, 1.2 million accidents are caused by sleepiness each year in the United States. You may find it surprising to learn that vehicle accidents caused by drowsy driving exceed those caused by alcohol and drugs combined. And if you happen to be drinking or using drugs the results are not additive but synergistically exponential radically increasing your risk of an accident, injury or death. These are only a few examples of the highly useful information you will receive by reading this book. Highly recommended. The importance of restful sleep examined in excellent book. Sleep isn't just about rest. It's about the body repairing itself, doing maintenance so to speak. Unfortunately, what has been discovered over time (and discussed in this book) is that, if you lose sleep, taking a nap, while it takes the edge off, it doesn't replace the sleep lost during the night. Our ability to fight disease (including cancer) and obesity may be directly tied to not getting enough restful sleep. Pills don't help either. Yes, they knock you out and make it easier to fall asleep but they lack the restorative power of natural sleep and, in fact, some sleeping pills can increase your risk of cancer. All of this is revealed in this excellent book that focuses on the role of sleep for humans (and, no doubt, also for animals as well). Our sleep cycle is essential to our health and breaking it up or altering it drastically, works against us and makes us less sharp."Why We Sleep" does a fine job of addressing these issues and explaining the research that has discovered the role of sleep and why it remains an important part of our health. Keep in mind that this book doesn't provide much in the way of solutions for patients beyond general recommendations for "sleep hygiene" as solving the problem really should be done by local sleep physicians (and each individual will have possible different solutions).

Girl, Wash Your Face Pdf

ISBN: B077GZBL1Y
Title: Girl, Wash Your Face Pdf Stop Believing the Lies About Who You Are So You Can Become Who You Were Meant to Be

Number one New York Times Best Seller

Do you ever suspect that everyone else has life figured out and you don't have a clue? If so, Rachel Hollis has something to tell you: That's a lie.

As the founder of the lifestyle website TheChicSite.com and CEO of her own media company, Rachel Hollis developed an immense online community by sharing tips for better living while fearlessly revealing the messiness of her own life. Now, in this challenging and inspiring new book, Rachel exposes the 20 lies and misconceptions that too often hold us back from living joyfully and productively, lies we've told ourselves so often we don't even hear them anymore.

With painful honesty and fearless humor, Rachel unpacks and examines the falsehoods that once left her feeling overwhelmed and unworthy, and reveals the specific practical strategies that helped her move past them. In the process, she encourages, entertains, and even kicks a little butt, all to convince you to do whatever it takes to get real and become the joyous, confident woman you were meant to be.

With unflinching faith and rock-hard tenacity, Girl, Wash Your Face shows you how to live with passion and hustle - and how to give yourself grace without giving up.

You might want to borrow it before you waste your money I don't understand all the hype about this book. Rachel Hollis's life experience is so near perfect and so far removed from that of the average woman, that there is almost nothing in this book that is actually relatable. She uses the following examples in her book:1. She dropped out of school at 19 to pursue her successful event planning business that catered to Hollywood celebrities.2. She had one intimate relationship outside of marriage. They broke up for two days. On the third day he professed his love and they ended up getting married.3. Although they have four children, she and her husband struggled with infertility for eight months.4. Hollis admits she has a mean streak and uses the example of making fun of a girl in high school for shaving her toes.5. Hollis also shares in the book that she peed her pants on a trampoline and had a cavity at one point.6. Almost every chapter talks about how she made the Forbes "Top 40 Under 40 list", runs her own multi-million dollar company, and is a "good Christian girl".Perhaps this book could be appreciated by women who have lived a very blessed and sheltered life. But for anyone who has ever had to deal with real life issues such as poverty, illness, abuse, depression, co-dependency, dysfunctional families, loneliness, etc. I recommend you look elsewhere because this book will come across as one long never-ending humblebrag. All eight women in my book club agreed that the book had a tone that was "inauthentic", "judgmental", and "preachy". If you want to read truly authentic, genuine work that sheds light on overcoming human imperfections and failings, I recommend reading Jeanette Walls, Cheryl Strayed, and Elizabeth Gilbert. These female authors have lived very imperfect lives - like most of us - and you will find their work far more relatable than this book which comes across as self-aggrandizing propaganda. I ended up returning the book for a full refund, which I never do.Note: My original one-star review of the book (which 93 people found helpful in the first 3 days) was reported to Amazon and removed for not meeting "community standards" even though the tone was very respectful. I'm sharing this because it might help explain all the five-star reviews.A looooonng not-so-humble brag. Skip it. Every woman alive is racing to grab their personal copy of the book Girl Wash Your Face. I read this back when it first came out, and I had pretty high expectations based on all the marketing hoopla. I honestly didn’t know who the author was prior to ordering the book. I watched a few videos of her before reading it and found it difficult to connect with her, but I read the book anyway.I believe this was partially marketed as a “Christian” book, but it’s pretty far from it. She definitely downplays the religious element, and I was left feeling like her view of God is terrifyingly self-serving. She is definitely her own biggest fan and does not have a humble bone in her body.I’m honestly really surprised to see how many women are raving about this book. I know there are quite a few that aren’t, but still. The book is one looooonggg not-so-humble brag...Incredibly superficial, shallow at best. This is not earth-shattering, introspective writing that will change your life. It’s common sense regurgitated accompanied by so many contradictions. Page upon page of her repeatedly tooting her own horn and every so often throwing God a bone. So bizarre. I had to force myself to finish it only because I spent money on it. Should’ve borrowed from the library! The power of marketing is real, people. It’s the only reason this book has sold so many copies. This is the literary version of the social experiment where people enter an elevator with other people facing the wrong way - new people coming on start facing the wrong way, too. Everyone else is doing it, right? If you haven’t read this book yet, just don’t. Spend your time reading a biography by a successful person or some Brene Brown or Anne Lamott...Lysa Terkeurst or Ann Voskamp. If you do choose to read this or have read it, I would encourage you to really dive in, dissect it and form your own opinion. Not what that “influencer” on IG thinks about it, what YOU think about it. It’s ok to call it like it is, self-help sprinkled with vague Christian fluff. We live in such a weird time...with social media and marketing constantly influencing our purchases and loyalties and opinions. I could go on, but I’ll leave it there!

I'm amazed at Mastering Ethereum's breadth, scope, and accessibility... I highly recommend it for your shelf. --Alex Van de Sande, Ethereum FoundationMastering Bitcoin is the canonical reference that made Bitcoin and blockchain technology accessible to a broad audience, and Mastering Ethereum does the same for the Ethereum world computer. -- Lane Rettig, Ethereum core developer Mastering Ethereum is a fantastically thorough guide, from basics to state of the art practices in smart contract programming, by two of the most eloquent blockchain educators. -- Manuel Araoz, CTO Zeppelin Mastering Ethereum will become a must read in the future, as Ethereum is going to be as ubiquitous as TCP/IP. It will become a necessary layer under which decentralized, trustless technologies live and thrive. -- Hudson Jameson, Community Organizer - Ethereum FoundationMastering Ethereum is the perfect book for anyone who wants to learn more about Ethereum, whether you're looking to test the waters or dive straight into the deep end. Between Gavin Wood's technical knowledge of Ethereum's inner workings and Andreas M. Antonopoulos' ability to make complex subjects approachable, you get the best of both worlds with this book. I only wish it had been around when I first started diving into Ethereum.-- Taylor Monahan - Founder & CEO of MyCrypto Mastering Ethereum is the book I wish I had when I started learning about Ethereum. In that respect, I think it will guide others so that their journey is easier than mine -- Andreas M. Antonopoulos

With this practical guide, Andreas M. Antonopoulos and Gavin Wood provide everything you need to know about building smart contracts and DApps on Ethereum and other virtual-machine blockchains.

Discover why IBM, Microsoft, NASDAQ, and hundreds of other organizations are experimenting with Ethereum. This essential guide shows you how to develop the skills necessary to be an innovator in this growing and exciting new industry.

As Good or Better than Mastering Bitcoin Long awaited and excellent. After reading Mastering Bitcoin, I knew waiting for this book rather than wading through the unorganized online info. about Ethereum and other authors was well worth the time...great book from one of the clear, rational voices for new economy.Wholesome content. Spirited literary style. Smooth flight path learning sequence. Thinking of buying the book? Get excited. I love this book for its attitude and get-to-the-point precision. Most importantly the book offers a thoughtful and comfortable “flight path” to progressively learn the spectrum of Ethereum concepts in a logical order. I am not implying the concepts are easy, but your natural “what’s that?” questions will either be answered in the next paragraph or there will be a shorthand link for additional information. The feeling you get after reading chapters is wholesome but not bloated.Unlike the first 300,000 Ethereum developers and enthusiasts who learned the concepts piecemeal you can learn in a sequence that makes logical sense. I have this appreciation now simply because my Ethereum programming and technical learning was through brute force and in fragments.Key concepts that require depth (cryptography, transactions, and security) are covered fully. This book is a great companion for analysts, developers, technical architects and all cryptocurious minds. In the spirit of book’s focused literally style I am ending here with a recommendation to buy and #buidl. The development of the Ethereum I try to get the idea to implement my first block-chain solution on Ethereum platform. This books does help me to build up a foundation knowledge as well issues I need to concern.

good quality paper & easy to understand I bought this for my 10 yr old to practice cursive. She's into art and always loved my cursive writing. Since the schools no longer teach cursive I wanted her to learn this skill and looked up books. This one appealed to me. The reviews were good. As promised the book paper quality was excellent and even with erasing a lot the paper didn't rip. My daughter loved it and found it easy to work on. My only small concern was that uppercase 'a' was written as 'a' in a slightly bigger font size and not as 'A'. whereas all other letters in uppercase were correct. I did not understand the logic behind it. Overall it's a good book for the price.Highly recommend We are very happy with this workbook! Easy to follow, an easy transition for my second grader to ease into cursive. The book opens up easily to lay flat so you can write flat on the paper.Find a different book The book is set up like this: Capital A, lowercase a, then 4 words starting with A. The kids haven't learned the other letters in the words yet! The point of this book is not to make kids trace the letters and then get frustrated when they can't do it on their own, but that's what the set up of this book wants them to do. I just had my son do the letters first, then go back and do the whole words. Also, the words they chose didn't always incorporate the highlighted letter into the middle of any of the words, so how is the kid supposed to practice leading into the letter? Finally, I didn't agree with the style of some of the letters. Ex: some of the capital letters looked too much like print, and the whole point of cursive is to not have to pick up your pencil like you do when you print.

The Foundation of All Survival Skills is “Feeder” Mind-Set

“Feeder” mind-set means being in control of a situation, proactive rather than reactive. It is an optimistic outlook that reframes any situation as a learning experience. Kevin Estela teaches survival skills from this feeder-based perspective, which is what separates his teaching style from other wilderness instructors.

Kevin has written the quintessential guide for an outdoor enthusiast’s “bucket list” of skills―how to make a fire, build a shelter, gather food, find water, use a knife correctly and make cordage. These skills will keep you safe and better prepare you to deal with emergencies in the field, when you’ll need the additional skills of signaling and communication, navigation and crisis first aid taught in this book. Each chapter concludes with more advanced techniques to build your skills in various challenging situations, with tips that even seasoned survival enthusiasts haven’t thought of.

101 Skills You Need to Survive in the Woods is not a onetime read but a lifetime reference you will turn to over and over again. It will become the first thing you pack for any adventure and just might save your― or someone else’s―life. kevin estela, a bushcraft and survival expert, is an avid world traveler and martial arts instructor.
