Very entertaining This book is an adventurer's tale; a gripping account of the harrowing experiences of a group of hippie thrill-seekers. This book is a real page-turner. It reads like a good novel, and there is never a dull moment. It is simply a blow-by-blow account of the author's drug-induced experiences in the Amazon jungle, a cross between an episode of National Geographic Explorer and an article out of High Times. Some Terence Mckenna enthusiasts might be somewhat dissapointed, however, because _True Hallucinations_ is not a potent philosophical work like his other books. It is not an attempt to root out the meaning of existence or discover the origins of the universe, but is instead just an entertaining romp through the jungle. Also an update: Dennis McKenna is alive and well and has been actively researching ethnopharmacology for 40 years. His writings have been published in scientific journals and his latest ideas are available on youtube and other internet sites and blogs. This is to correct and retract my earlier assertion that he somehow experienced bad side effects as a result of his research.What a trip! McKenna is a wonderful storyteller, thinker, and fellow weirdo. I can relate to many of the bizarre moments in this book and have gone through psychosis similar to Dennis. It was odd to see the synchronicities in my personal universe portrayed in This book which is why I enjoyed it. I don’t believe if you’re an absolutist you will enjoy McKenna’s writings/lectures in general.Amazing read for any psychonaut.. Reductionists beware An absolutely amazing read! However I will say, if you have a reductionist or mechanicalistic view of the world and or have never had a proper psychedelic experience, this book will aggravate you beyond belief.With that being said, I found that this book offers a number of thrilling stories, theories, and insights. All of which ultimately lead the reader down the path of further understanding and inquiry into our very surreal connection with psilocybin containing fungi and the universe.Gifting to a friend that has been yearning to read this for some time now. Highly recommend.RIP Terence

I was very excited for the second volume of this series! It's a beautifully done book and I am glad it is being published! However, as usual, shipping has been horrible and the book has come damaged. I will just purchase in store. Shipping has never had enough packin and literally half the packing had no air inside.High quality. A tad underwhelming content. Maybe, this book is one of those products that I would have enjoyed more when the games originally came out. With that said, this book is still high quality in both presentation and the illustrations. I'm hoping that they continue making these volumes after the next one, and I hope that Dark Horse starts including the spinoff games in the series such as FF Tactics. Anyway, I wish they would have had art over the battle systems, more developmental artwork, and not looked so much like a game guide, y'know? For the content that is here, it's nice. The printing and paper grade is top notch, and you can tell they didn't just slap this book together.I do have a gripe, though. This is the fifth or sixth Dark Horse art book I've ordered in the past three weeks, and it came dinged and bent like the others. It's not bad-bad, but I expected sharp corners. Amazon needs to pack their books as well as they pack the diecast cars they sell and slap "Fragile!" stickers on the shipping boxes. It has at least one spelling error per sentence. I'm stuck with it since there's no possibility of a refund, but learn from my mistake!It's a concise book that is a great reminder of things you may have been taught long ... Some tips I definitely feel like most people do not know, including answering questions with information that leads to a dead end. If you're socially awkward, you definitely want to read this, it breaks down what to do (AND not do, which I appreciated) very specifically. I'm outgoing and feel comfortable navigating a party of strangers, but this has explained how to skip some awkward conversations that I definitely have had and do not want to have again!Do you wear clothes to an office party, or just go natural? Several reviewers have commented that the author or the techniques offered in this book are "plastic" or somehow fake. I don't really agree with that criticism. These social techniques are simply methods for making a more favorable personal impression or more adroitly facilitating interpersonal discourse. Are they "natural?" I don't really understand why it is considered a criticism to offer to teach someone a behavior which is not natural to them. If these techniques are natural to you, then you are wasting your time reading this book. If they are not natural to you, then you could potentially benefit from reading this book. But I can think of few human behaviors which are more natural than the desire to make a favorable social impression. When you go for a job interview do you brush your teeth, or do you just go natural? When you go to an office party do you wear clothes, or do you just go natural? When going on a hot first date do you restrain your flatulence, or do you just act naturally? Get real people, we all tailor our dress and behavior to impress the people we feel a desire to impress.I personally utilize very few of the techniques contained in this book, but then again I have very little desire to climb most social or corporate ladders. I do occasionally have clients who ask me to help them improve their social skills, so I like to have some familiarity with recommended social behaviors. The skills and behaviors outlined in this book can improve your social presentation if you take the time to practice them until they feel natural. Like every thing else in life, practice does lessen our natural imperfections.

Fantastic exploration of Coffee in Japan!! I read this from start to finish in a day. I couldn't put it down. Not only was it a fascinating exploration of the history and role of coffee culture in Japan, it offered up some places we could visit. (Which we did!). I love this book! I was even able to talk about coffee to my Japanese coffee maniac friends about stuff even they didn't know!Coffee and Japan Thick with clear understanding of both Japan and Coffee. Very good but long read. Read this while traveling in Japan to a Coffee Show and visiting Coffee Roasters and Cafes. I was surprised how accurate and insightful this book was on both topics.Awesomeness! The author's love for his subject is obvious, and maybe that's one of the reasons this book is such a delight. It explores many and various aspects of Japanese history, language, culture and weltanschauung in general. I thoroughly enjoyed Miller's style, and was actually sorry to reach the end of the book so soon.

I would have devoured this story in a heartbeat because it's just so GUSH WORTHY! But since I'm currently reading it in a book club, I'm forced to pace myself...I'm a giant Frozen fan and I absolutely adore Elsa and Anna! And this book is such a delight because it catches their personalities so well! Tons of funny, awkward and just too darn cute sisterly moments that had me laughing my head off and brought tears of joy to my eyes. It's a blast to read!The downside to this book is the chapters are sooo short and leave you wanting more! Also, WHY is there no physical copies available?!?
